Systems Engineering
Züst Engineering AG often uses the methodology “Systems Engineering” developed at ETH Zurich in its projects - a problem solving methodology for interdisciplinary teams.
The methodology “Systems Engineering” has been further developed and adapted to current requirements by Rainer Züst. More attention has been devoted to socio-technical systems, networks as well as the time factor. A textbook has been published, which conveys the most important principles and ground rules, which are being further illustrated by simple key phrases and examples. In addition, eight examples have been prepared and published as a case book showcasing the correct use of Systems Engineering in day-to-day planning.
A considerable factor for success in using the “Systems Engineering” methodology in project planning is the systematic structuring of the project – respectively the subdivision in several workable packages and stages. There are two fundamental concepts:
- The project is subdivided into stages / phases: they determining milestones, deliverables, central questions to be dealt with, relation to other projects (especially “umbrella projects”) as well as the relation to internal resources (for example previous experience and findings from other projects). In “Systems Engineering”, the life cycle model, respectively a macro-strategy are key words.
- Systems Engineering» recommends to subdivide demanding sub-projects with regards to content – for example a systematic assessment of the situation with present- and a future-orientated analyses , target setting and selection. In “Systems Engineering”, the key words for this are problem solving cycle, respectively micro-approach.
In practice, both methodological concepts are used in a problem specific way which requires specific knowledge.
Züst Engineering AG has comprehensive know-how of “Systems Engineering” and thus is able to give valuable tips during the actual implementation.
